Arts Exchange
Arts Exchange Arts Exchange Gallery Show Mission/Vision Statement:
The Heller Arts Exchange is an annual program that funds and supports the creation of an exhibition of new work by a local artist in collaboration with UCCS Students. The program provides an opportunity for a local artist to devise a gallery exhibition focused on their work. Simultaneously, it provides students with the opportunity to work alongside a professional artist, have their work funded and exhibited, and experience the planning and executing of a gallery show. Students receive mentorship from both the artist and the Heller curator.
The Heller Arts Exchange is generously funded by the UCCS Provost’s Office.
Color Your World - Featuring Jeresneyka Rose
This year, our featured artist is Jeresneyka Rose aka Rizzo, whose work you have likely seen. Her murals provide color and character all around our city in locations such as the Pioneers Museum, Columbia Elementary, and Panorama Park. And yet, her mural work only begins to hint at her range.
From whimsical pop-culture references to powerful portraits, “Color Your World” will exhibit a collection of stories that reinforce the notion that the world would be nothing without color.
Throughout history, melanated and marginalized peoples across the world have had their lives taken, world shaken, rights stripped, and value dismissed due to social constructs.
In this visual and auditory collection, the vivid use of color and dynamic use of sound, in combination with direct and indirect story telling, is intended to highlight the beauty of melanated and marginalized peoples.
Some stories will describe acts of love, solidarity and radical joy while others evoke feelings associated with the lack of humanity that exists within American society, government, corporations, and the world at large.
Color Your World also features the work of students Noah Bello, Adara Ceja, and Quinn Smola.
